PRODUCT ECOLOGY INFORMATION
Symbiotic chair was designed with sustainability in mind as a long-lasting and environmentally friendly product. We are conserving valuable resources with a product containing mostly recyclable components.
Metal components
Its frame structure is made from steel and aluminium, which are both 100% recyclable materials. This means that at the end of the product’s life cycle, all the metal components can be melted down and reused as raw materials. Steel and aluminium used for manufacturing of Symbiotic’s components are secondary metals, already containing an amount of recycled scrap metals. Additionally, both steel and aluminium are highly durable materials, ensuring the exceptional longevity of the product.
Metal components for the chrome-plated frame version of Symbiotic are plated in a facility with the highest standard of industrial pollution prevention and chrome-plating wastewater treatment, with its environmental management systems certified to ISO 14001:2015 standard.
Minimal amount of plastic
We seek to use the minimum amount of plastic in our design, using it only on the castor wheels and one small washer, components where its use is hardly avoidable. Upholstery foam and the vegan leather used in one version of Symbiotic inevitably contain polyurethane and polyester. However, it is possible to choose a version of Symbiotic upholstered with natural woollen/flex fabric or the fabric made from 100% recycled plastic bottles (Camira Main Line Flax or Rivet), both certified to the EU Ecolabel.
Upcycled marine plastic
The Oceanic is a fabric we use as an option for the Symbiotic Office model which was born of the SEAQUAL Initiative designed to combat marine plastic pollution and achieve a waste free environment. It is created entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic – from debris floating discarded in our seas, used to make SEAQUAL yarn, to bottles thrown away and destined for landfill. One small drop in the mission to clean both the earth and its ocean, this contemporary fabric is a recycled polyester with a purpose.
Wood
The seats and backrests are made using plywood derived from the FSC* certified wood.
